Design and Technology

Design and Technology Overview
At Wark C of E Primary School we are fully committed to providing children with an enriching, relevant and purposeful DT curriculum which fully prepares pupils for their future life and career beyond school. In a rapidly changing world, technology must be embraced; we seek to ensure children are collaborative and adaptive learners who can solve real life problems through drawing upon their rich skill set. We firmly believe that DT inspires children to think independently, innovatively and develop creative, procedural and technical understanding.

Our whole school approach to curriculum design is inspired by Ebbinghaus' curve of forgetting and our DT curriculum is no different. Through Bruner's spiral curriculum concept children will experience and learn two projects throughout the year. This enables them to deep dive into researching, designing, planning, making and evaluating with each project.  Amalgamated, these areas promote aspirational learners at Wark C of E Primary School with a strong self- awareness.

DT in action!

Let's Get Cooking!
~ When children eat better, they do better. ~
The National Curriculum outlines that as part of children's work with food, they should be taught how to cook and apply the principles of nutrition and healthy eating. Instilling a love of cooking in pupils will also open a door to one of the great expressions of human creativity. Let's Get Cooking is an excellent gateway to learning this crucial life skill.

Our Let's Get Cooking programme is run by an amazing group of volunteers from Wark village and parent volunteers. They inspire children to learn to cook and enjoy good food.

This programme encourages confidence and skills that children need to get hands-on in the kitchen and make healthier food choices throughout their lives.
